almost famous

I totally have the dress that Brooke (Sophia Bush) is wearing in the season premier of One Tree Hill! I never watch that show but I saw the previews while I was watching Gossip Girl (love the clothes on that show btw!)

It's a 3.1 Phillip Lim dress that I picked up at the Rack for $189 from $695. Ugh.. Forever 21 totally copied the dress. Don't get me wrong, I love me some F21 but sheesh. No wonder they're getting sued for copyright infringement by everyone and their mom!

Now here's me wearing it at The Man's holiday party a couple weeks ago:

Do the blurry faces look creepy?

frock you

my favorite dress of the week (on sale, of course!) - a tad early again... hopefully because you and I will both be too hung over to read tomorrow!

I'm not usually fond of wrap dresses, only because I have no boobs or waist so I just look like a big corn dog - the dress being the corn and me being the delicious sausage.. Oh why oh why did the closest Hot Dog on a Stick close??

Ahem. Anyway, I just love how stylish and sexy the wrap is and with the tie in front, it draws your eyes in and and people won't notice your bubbly chubbly! And c'mon.. Can you really beat the sale price of $95? I don't think so.

Get it here: Calypso

should i or shouldn't i?

I've been drooling over this Diane von Furstenberg jacket for months and months (since Bumbershoot weekend!) and now it's finally on sale! Originally $525, now it's $315. That's still bank.

Don't look at this link because I saw it first and you can't buy it.

fruity

Have you ever been to this site? Toutie!

Anytime I'm looking to find a discount on something that's not on sale at the department stores, I scour this site for discount codes at smaller, boutique-y sites such as Karizma (which by the way has a disount code for 50% off anything in the store! Use the code toutie50 when you check out.)

A lot of these sites carry designers like Marc by Marc Jacobs, Diane von Furstenberg and Mike & Chris, to name a few and if you don't want to wait until the end of the season for regular markdowns, then is is the place for you.

Some of my favorites are Active Endeavors for their great denim selection

OrgHipChick for all the latest by Velvet

and Luv Charlie for fun styles by Lewis Cho and other lesser known designers.

All of these shops have discount codes available at Toutie!

show stoppin'

Lorac partnered with the designers at Miss Davenport and came up with the fabulous Showstopper palette. I bought it a couple weeks ago (while I was supposed to be shopping for others!) I wasn't sure if I should keep it but come Christmas morning, I saw the lovely packaging and felt inspired. The colors are really pretty and shimmery and I felt totally glam!

I love, love, LOVE the peachy tan color, right above the black. I put that all over my lid. I used the lightest color right below my brow and the darker brown color for contouring. I applied a pencil liner first then used a wide, thin brush to apply the black shadow on top. And of course, tons of mascara!

I look so good, I'm practically a drag queen. Okay... I don't quite like Kimora Lee Simmons, but you get the picture.

Get it at Sephora for only $35! It's only available for a limited time.

By the way, the pencil liner I use is Tarte's EmphasEYES. It's super duper thin and goes on extremely well. It's kinda pricey but I think it's worth it.

Pick it up here for $18.

frock you

my favorite dress of the week (on sale, of course!) - a tad early since I probably won't be posting on Christmas day and you probably won't be reading!

The details that designer Thakoon Panichgul puts into his wares are always impeccable. Most of the time, drop waists make even the girliest of girls have boyish figures - but you'll notice here that the delicate pintucks gives this simple frock a womanly shape.

Ok, ok. You got me. I only like this dress because it has pockets. Just kidding!

ON SALE for $439 from $735.

am i even a girl?

I've been using this lotion for the past few days now and was beginning to decide that I really didn't like it. It was so weird - really sticky and didn't absorb very well. Then last night as I dutifully applied it to my legs after my shower, I realized that it's actually body wash!

Gawd. I suck. In my defense, it came in a gift basket so there was actually moisturizer involved! Then again, why would someone give me three tubes of the same thing? D'oh. I guess I need to read more carefully.

On a slightly less stupid note, it's a really great body cleanser! Buy it: Origins.

old lady..

Just kidding! Old NAVY!

Did you go crazy at Old Navy during the summer the way I did?? I thought everything was just super cute and so affordable. Then along came Fall and all they had were lame coats.. Until today! I decided it was time to end my boycott and lo and behold! Cute stuff again!

Alas, having just gone to J. Jill (not for me! for me mum!) and buying her Christmas gift I felt too guilty to spend any moola on myself.

Isn't this hoodie super duper cute? They didn't have it at the store but I like that it's kinda fancy for a sweatshirt. It's on sale for $20.
They didn't have this dress at the store either but I really like the lantern sleeves and it's only $17! I could wear it once and not feel guilty!

They did have this double-breasted cardigan. It's pretty cute but the craftsmanship is questionable and it's $35. Make it $15 and I'll take it! I just can't pay full price for items at O.N. It'll go on sale!

(Don't you think it's funny that if it's at Nordstrom or Saks, $100 for a sweater is a steal! But when it comes to something from O.N. and Target, you don't want to pay more than $20.)

gone glamazon, gone

Word on the street is that my nemesis (only in my mind), whom I fondly - and jealously - call "Glamazon" is moving to the glamazon mothership of NYC. Don't get me wrong, she has no idea the Battle of the Fashionistas going on at the office. Probably because she's winning.

There are days when I come to work thinking, "Hey! I look pretty stylish today!" And then I see her 5'9" skinny, size 2 arse struttin' around wearing her vintage high waisted tulip skirt with a billowy silk blouse tucked and 4 inch heels and long blonde silky hair that always looks like there's wind blowing through it... BAH! I should just go home now!

Alas, she is moving on to the final stages of the battle without me. She still needs to defeat many more fashionistas with big boobs and small waists in order to come out champion! She has a rich boyfriend at her side so keeping her designer artillery at optimal levels shouldn't be difficult. I wish her luck. Perhaps we'll meet again some day.

I've added a new feature to the sidebar! You can now send me instant messages via meebo! Send me your comments/questions or just say hi!

get a new face

Who doesn't love a facial? Well, to be perfectly honest, my bf doesn't... But have you seen his pores? Yikes.

I get facials at Calidora once in a while and they're having a F&F sale with 30% off facials! Wow! Print out the coupon and make an appointment. If you're a first time client, get a free consultation. They'll use some fancy machine to take photos of your face and point out all the nasty bits. Hmmm... Maybe you don't want to know!

For more information: Calidora! Locations in WA and CA.

frock you

my favorite dress of the week (on sale, of course!)

I love the shape of Diane von Furstenberg's Nightingale dress. It'll hide all your post-holiday juiciness and it'll look fab with black tights. (Don't you love how tights are "in" these days? We girls don't need to freeze our tushies off in the name of fashion any more! Well, at least until next season.)

ON SALE for $595 from $850.

christmas cooties

This old broad that I work with has been wearing her Christmas sweaters for the last few weeks. That's not necessarily my gripe though. I mean some people just look good in them.. My gripe is that she only has two Christmas sweaters and she's been alternating them every other day!

Must be nice to just wake up in the morning and know what you're going to wear.

gladiator

I totally succumbed to the bah-humbug season and bought something for myself. I know, I know, I still have gifts to purchase but it was such a good deal! Not to mention it was really cute and it'll give me a reason to do something for NYE (besides sit at home and fall asleep at 11:30 pm.)

I found it at Nordstrom Rack yesterday for $124.50 from $498. I mean, that's good right? Fine, fine.. Maybe I should return it. But isn't it so cute?

UPDATE: Sorry, I forgot to mention that it's by Marc by Marc Jacobs.

At least I didn't buy anything when I went to Target yesterday! I should get points for that!

she speaketh the truth

Me: holding cute skirt up to my hips while at American Eagle

12-year old niece: That's really short.

Me: Yeah.. It is kinda short.

12-year old niece: Uhhh... Like, no offense to you, but that skirt is really short.

Me: Oh yeah?

12-year old niece: Yeah.. You're like kinda old for that.

Me: sigh...

I guess I'll go over to J. Jill now, or maybe Chico's.

almost famous

Did you watch The Hills yesterday? Lauren Conrad was wearing the navy Marc by Marc Jacobs "Marina" sweater that I have. You know.. the one that cups my butt.

I'm going to wear it even more now!

f.m.b.

If there ever were a pair of eff me boots, these Chinese Laundry "Top" boots are it!

I need to go try them on and see how they feel. They're relatively inexpensive and they'd be fun with short skirts (but not so short that my ba-dunk-a-dunk hangs out!) and slim jeans or leggings.

Get 'em at zappos.

frock you

my favorite dress of the week (on sale, of course!)

Don't you just love 3.1 Phillip Lim's ruffle collar coccoon dress? The collar is to die for. It makes a very simple dress all the more elegant and eye-catching. I see it with some fun colored tights or a fancy clutch and you're ready for New Years Eve!

You can buy it at Jake. It's not exactly a steal, but you'd look sooooo hot broke!

UPDATE: This dress in amethyst is now even cheaper at Barney's.

naughty or nice

Does it really matter? I better get a good gift from my bf. He's finally asked for my Christmas list so I'm compiling random stuff on it. I kinda like this jacket by Puma.

I actually saw this jacket while browsing through my brother's Complex magazine. It was a gift idea for guys to buy their girlfriends. Maybe I should get a subscription for my bf so he has these things at home. Anyway, I think it'd be cute to wear on weekends.

I'm also going to add this 3.1 Phillip Lim dress that I had seen at Barney's a while back. It's on sale now, so I'll put it on the list. Click here to see the dress. I'm going to put that miu miu bag on this list too, even though it's waaaaaaay over his threshold. Maybe he's feeling generous! (And yes, he has a threshold for my gifts that has now reach $350, which is quite an accomplishment on my part. I was stuck at $250 for a couple years. I finally got a raise!)

Hmm. I should put a picture of a diamond ring on my list too. Two carats anyone?

too old for this

So I watched the season finale of Tim Gunn's Guide to Style last night (did I ever tell you about the time Tim was having lunch at the table next to my cousin's and me? we were so excited! but that's neither here nor there...) and the woman's issue was that she was dressing like a 20-something when she's actually a 40-something. I swear, sometimes I feel like I dress too young. Granted, I just turned 30 but still. Should I really stop shopping at Hollister? Should I not wear Juicy sweats?

Every now and then I'll try on a mini skirt at Abercrombie, only to realize I look completely ridiculous. Not to mention the fact that the old lady in my head bursts out laughing as she tells me she can see my booty hanging out. Seriously, I really like buying clothes at American Eagle! Maybe that's why my boss thought I was 22. I guess that's sort of a good thing, right? No one ever believes I'm 30, but is it because of my clothes? Today I'm wearing wide leg pants from AE (which I LOOOOOVE), a top from Old Navy and a sweater from BP. Those are all the stores my 12 year old niece shops at.

I don't want to be known as the old lady trying desperately to hold onto her youth. Maybe I already am! Eep!

UPDATE: Okay, I could be wrong about my clothes... I got three compliments today! Then again, they probably think I'm only 24 and am dressed appropriately - little do they know, I'm an old hag with good skin. Thanks gramma!

why yes i do look nice today

I'm finally wearing that Burberry dress I bought several months ago.

Uhh.. that's not a picture of me. Hahaha! Anyway, I'm wearing it with black tights and my patent leather peep toes. Don't tell anyone, but I think I'm going to wear it to my bf's holiday party next week too! *gasp* Can you imagine wearing the same outfit twice?

Eff that! I'm not that kinda girl. I'll wear heck out of something I like. Why buy it if you're not going to wear it? I'm not made of money. But at least I got the dress at 70% off! Remember, it's not how much you spend that matters.. It's how much you save! I saved a good $450!

frock you

my favorite dress of the week (on sale, of course!)

This Rachel Roy dress can easily take you from work to play. I love the pleating - if you don't have a waist (like me!), a dress like this will give you one! The pockets add such a sweet touch, I'm so glad that designers are starting to put them on a lot of dresses.

It's on sale now at ShopBop! (I still can't afford it, but maybe I'll find it at the Rack!)

and the eyes have it

For those of you who don’t know me, I have an obsession with all things eyelash. Having spent nearly all my life with barely-there lashes, I am willing to try anything and everything that may boost my cils. The ones I’m using now include Rimmel Maxxx, Lancome L’Extencils, MAC Plush Lash and L’Oreal HIP High Drama Volumizing Mascara. But at any given moment, I also have three unopened tubes of mascara in my bathroom. I say unopened because I can’t justify having more than say four mascaras in use at once! It's like new underwear and socks - I always have at least one new pair for a special occassion. Waiting in the wings, I have a Diorshow, MAC Fiber Lash and Rimmel Lycra Lash Extender.

I always seem to go back to Diorshow but I love trying new ones. The L’Oreal HIP one is also one of my favorites although I don’t think the tube has staying power. It tends to get goopy after a few weeks. But the product itself really plump up my lashes.

I like to mix my mascaras too. For a while I was using Rimmel Maxxx, Lancome L’Extencils and L’Oreal at the same time, in that order. I do that when I’m not wearing much else on my face.

MAC Plush Lash works the best if you roll the wand upwards as you apply. It really curls. It has this dual action brush that's a little bit awkward at first but you get used to it. (I have to give it to MAC though, they have great mascaras that are really reasonably priced - think drugstore brands!)

The willing-to-sell-my-soul-to-the-devil-for-lashes product is hands down the Jan Marini Age Intervention Eyelash magic potion. I’ve been using it for a little over a year now and you can ask any one of my friends and they’ll tell you that my lashes are super long compared to before. I don’t know how it works but it does. I must warn you though, it’s pretty expensive at $160 a tube (you apply it like you would liquid liner). But SkinWest always has random discounts that range from 20-30% off so I recommend that you sign up on the mailing list and buy it when they have a promotion. *wink wink*

word on the street

Following in the footsteps of accessory designers Rafe and Hollywould, Target will be featuring shoes and bags by Loeffler Randall. Here's a sneak peak.

I'm not too crazy about them, especially if they're not leather, but maybe it's because the photos are pretty crappy. In any case, I'll see you on Dec. 30, when they debut!

oh theola

The Jimmy Choo that I bought too hastily from Bergdorf has finally arrived but the magical Lanvin bag beckons. I'm sending Theola back from whence she came. Say bye-bye!

Besides, I'm already coveting another bag!

I saw this Miu Miu bag at Barney's (while I was checkin' on the Lanvin) and it's HUGE but soooo darling! The sales guy said it should be going on sale soon - he's gonna call me when it does. Yay!

I'm using the Kansas tote today and while the weather is outside is frightful, my new bag is so delightful! Wow. That was cheesy. I'm going to hypnotize myself by staring at my bag now.
